Aloo Tikki Chaat | Indian Street Food | Tikki Chole Recipe

This is one of my favorite recipes since I was a little kid. Over the years, I tried many variations until I managed to make one that hits the spot! This recipe is filled with so many flavors and it is so simple to make that you will surely fall in love with this.

The chutney’s in this recipe can be made in bigger batches and frozen. Read on and let me know how you like it.

    For Preparing the Tikki

    For Chole
  • In a blender, add onion, tomato, ginger and garlic. Make a fine paste.
  • In a small cooker, add oil, cumin seeds, whole bay leaf and cinnamon stick.
  • Now add the tomato-onion paste and saute until the oil separates.
  • Now add all the dry spices - Chilli powder, salt, turmeric, chole masala, dry mango powder. mix well.
  • Now add the chole and 1 cup water. cook for 3-4 whistles in a pressure cooker.
  • Green Chutney
  • In a blender, add coriander leaves, mint leaves, green chillies, cumin powder, black salt, and lemon juice and blend into a fine paste. The green chutney is ready.
  • Sweet Tamarind Chutney
  • In a saucepan, bring water to boil, add dry tamarind, salt, sugar, chilli powder and cumin seeds. Boil for about 10-15 mins or until the liquid thickens. Strain the liquid and your tamarind chutney is ready.
  • For Yoghurt
  • In a small bowl, add yoghurt, salt, sugar and cumin powder. Mix well. The yoghurt is ready.
  • Preparing the Aloo Tikki
  • In a Bowl, add mashed potatoes, chilli powder and salt along with Corn flour. Mix well.
  • Now make small patties of the mixture and keep aside.
  • In a non stick pan, add 2 tbsp of ghee and fry the patties.
  • Once you flip them, push them flat using your spatula.
  • Cook on both sides until the sides become golden crispy. Remove and keep side.
  • Assembling the Chaat together
  • I like to get all the elements of chaat together in small bowls before I start plating them.
  • In a plate, add the patties (tikki).
  • Now add Chole.
  • Now add finely chopped onion and tomatoes.
  • Add green chutney, sweet chutney, and yoghurt.
  • Now top it up with some nylon sev and your aloo tikki chaat is ready!
