Dal Tadka | Lentil Curry

If you love Dhaba style cooking, I can guarantee that an authentic dal tadka is on the your list. This simple and quick recipe is sure to win hearts! For this recipe, I am using Toor Dal and Masoor Dal. You can also add moong dal if you like. This version of my recipe also include simple tampering (tadka).   • In a pressure cooker, add the washed masoor dal and toor dal in 50/50 proportion.
  • Now add the chopped onion, tomato, green chillies, little ginger, garlic, turmeric powder and asafoetida. Then add 1.5 cups of water and cook until 7-8 whistles.
  • Once the Dal is cooked, add salt, kasoori methi, and garam masala. Mix well. You can add water and bring the dal to boil again should you wish to adjust the consistency.
  • Tampering/Tadka
  • In a small pan, add ghee then add turmeric, chilli powder and a big pinch of hing (asafoetida). Then add cumin seeds, chopped garlic and whole chillies and mix well. Remember to not burn it.
  • Now add or mix the tampering to the dal and serve with some rice!
