If you read my story, you would know that I am from Indore. And when people hear Indore, first remark I get is always about Poha-Jalebi. There is something about this duo due to which it has made its name internationally. This easy to make Poha recipe will take you on a trip back home in an instance! My mom and dad (in law’s) favorite, here is a recipe that you will be sure to add to your sunday breakfast (or dinner or lunch) :).

  • In a bowl, add poha and 2 cups of room temp water. wait for about 40 seconds and drain access water. Let it rest for about 5 mins. The consistency will become like the one shown above. It should be soft but not sticky.
  • In a pan, add oil, fennel seeds, green chillies and onions. Saute for about 3 minutes then add the peas, 1 tsp salt, cumin powder and turmeric powder and cook for another 2 mins.
  • While the onions and peas are cooking, you can return to the bowl of soaked Poha and add salt and sugar and lightly mix with your hands. Once this step is complete, add the mixture into the pan with the rest and mix thoroughly.
  • Lastly, squeeze about half a lemon in to the poha and cook for 5 mins - covered. Voila! the poha is now ready! Garnish with cilantro and serve with some hot jalebi's!
